NEWSLETTER #64 - SEPTEMBER 2008 EDITORIAL IMPRESSIONS BY DOUG BASTIN
CARGO & CRASHES
The crashes refer to some cards of wrecked aeroplanes featured in this issue and not to the world financial and trading system but there has certainly been reduced activity in card markets as well. Also as was the case in 2001 with TWA, Swissair and SABENA, there will be enough material for a 2008 farewell issue to card-issuers Aloha, Excel and Futura - and that is without the newer non-issuers like Zoom, Eos and Silverjet no longer with us. Bill Baird has managed to uncover what new issues there are from the airlines and we feature his employer Polar in a review of the 747 freighter. I hope to keep tracking the major events of 100 years ago and would appreciate any info on cards to support the Moore-Brabazon 1st flight by an Englishman centenary in 2009 .... Amy Johnson and a mystery French biplane feature in WASG and WDYK.
